Crying Sunday

in collaboraton with Frascati Theatre and Tolhuistuin, Amsterdam

Crying Sunday is a special afternoon/evening program that consists of a book launch for a new publication by Stand Up Tall Productions, and a one-off performance of A Short History of Crying, a recent theatre work by Sanja Mitrovic (winner of BNG Theatermakers Prijs 2010 for her production Will You Ever Be Happy Again?). Both events will take place on Sunday, 16 October 2011.

Hard-cover fully-illustrated publication documents the development and realisation of this critically acclaimed production which premiered on 25 November 2010 at the hetveem theatre, Amsterdam.

A Short History of Crying is conceived as an investigation into the phenomenology of tears, touching upon themes of memory, emigration and death. In this work, and the accompanying publication, Sanja Mitrovic explores social and cultural mechanisms related to public display of emotions. Following successful presentations in Europe and USA, A Short History of Crying continues to tour internationally.

The publication consists of two parts. The first part presents materials from research and rehearsals alongside newly commissioned essays. The second part combines the original script with photographic documentation of the performance.

This unique event begins at 16.00 with a book reading at Tolhuistuin, a new cultural centre in the Overhoeks, Amsterdam-Noord. The programme continues during a boat journey to the Frascati Theatre located in the centre of Amsterdam, where A Short History of Crying will be presented at 19.00. After the performance, join a short walk to the Schreierstoren in Nieuwemakrt, for the final reading and refreshments from 21.00. Host performer is Marjolein Roeleveld.

Catering and boat ticket included in price. Advance bookings advised. For reservations and tickets contact Frascati Theatre:
